![]() ![]() Mr Burton coughed ungraciously and sniffled with his nose as he packed his things into his bag. "Sir, respectfully, I don't understand why you gave this to me." I said to him after finishing the novel the night prior. Not because I was blown away with the beauty of the writing style or the expressiveness of the author, but because for the first time whilst reading a book, I was confused. ![]() Amongst the dozens of books Mr Burton, a small frail man with the intelligence of a physician, provided me with, one stuck out to me. The two if us would often do a fortnightly exchange of novel recommendations and opinions - something I believe was one of the most valuable things a teacher has ever done for me. ![]() I remember I was recommended a book by my teacher. I appreciated my teacher in the final senior years and the subject ended up being my best performance over my total scores. I didn't excel in a particular subject, but English literature was something that I always had an interest in. I wasn't an exceptionally gifted student when I was in high school. ![]()
